Me, Myself, and I

Hello fellow peers!

I am a true Bostonian, having lived and grown up here all my life. I was educated in the Boston Public School system, finally attending Boston Latin School as class of 2010. I have much pride in my high school because it's curriculum and international prestige has contributed to me in becoming the person I am today. But after high school, I guess it wasn't time for me to leave the urban life yet. I am now currently a student at Boston University. I am in the School of Hospitality (SHA) with intentions of narrowing down to Food-Service management. My goal in life is to open my own business, preferably a restaurant, cafe, or bakery! But I also have a strong interest in social media marketing as well. So possible double-major with marketing or PR is pending.

Growing up, I have always had two major hobbies: swimming and music. I competitively swam all my life, starting off as a beginner. Four or five swim teams later, I decided to enroll in the Bay and Ocean States Squids U.S. Swim team. When it comes to music, I have always been a sole believer that without music, life (FOR ME) would not be exciting. I grew up playing the piano, but eventually I switched to playing the cello. I still play up to this day as a member of the BU Orchestra. But classical aside, I love listening to all kinds of music. My iPod is my lifesaver; jamming to it is probably one of my favorite things to do. And the best part is that I can do that anywhere! So because of this, I have always had a great appreciation for the arts!

So some of you are probably wondering: "Why Food?" Well, my mom has been cooking ever since she was a child. Growing up in poverty, she was forced to learn how to fend for herself and be independent. Ever since I was born, her dishes has always been my favorite no matter what anyone else says. I believe that her care for cooking with the intentions of raising me and my sister up well is what makes her cooking delicious. It's the secret ingredient! But I noticed that whenever I go out to eat dinner, or order an ice cream cone, or just stay home and watch Food Network, I am always intrigued by the tricks of the trade in the culinary world. After years of (hopefully but probably not) maturity, I started to attempt cooking and baking. Once and awhile, when the resources are available and my parents have allowed it, I will try to make something good to chow on. Very recently, I have made it a goal of mine to cook and bake more often.
I believe that food is more than just a basic need. It's an art! You have a plate as your canvas, your ingredients as your vast array of paint, your kitchen tools as your brushes, and all together you create a masterpiece. But how can we forget? Garnishes: very small details that can easily distinguish the work of an amateur from the work of a professional. It's amazing if you ask me: it shows pure craftsmanship.

So what is this blog about? Well, it's everything food-related! My blog is called "Eat, Cafe, Love" because it was inspired by one of my favorite films, Eat Pray Love. "Dolce far Niente" was my favorite quote meaning "The sweetness of doing nothing." It's only when you are doing nothing that you can fully appreciate the little things. When you're ready to eat, you're technically doing nothing, so why not and sit back for a little, and appreciate it? And bite by bite, savor the flavor. "Cafe" is in there because I love cafes. I have this small adventure of mine, where i venture out to try as many cafes as I can. It's pretty fun honestly because you start to notice subtle differences between different places. So simply speaking, this blog will be comprised of food-venue reviews, reviews of the food themselves, and once and awhile, food that I happen to make. The pictures you see 99% of the time will be from me. I also like food photography or let's say, "foodography". Coolio!

I want this blog to be fun and approachable and I hope that's exactly the impression people get from this blog because it reflects me as a person. Welcome to my blog and enjoy!

Please feel free to contact me if you'd like. I will try to respond as quickly as I can.
